For all you chaat lovers, here is a special post with recipes of 3 amazing snacks to brighten up your lockdown evenings- Bombay special sandwich, aloo tiki chaat and bhel puri. I’m also sharing my chutney recipes that make these chaats so much more tasty!

Day 21 & 22 had me making the most special meals for Iftari- a lot of chaat!! Read on below for all the recipes and a glimpse at the other food I made on these two days.

BOMBAY SPECIAL SANDWICH

Ingredients:

2 medium potatoes

1 cucumber

1 onion

Grated cheese

Coriander chutney

3 tbsps Sev

Black salt and garlic salt to taste

1 tbsp butter


Recipe:

Step 1: Butter the slices of bread and put the following inside:

Step 2: Add a layer of boiled potato slices (rubbed in garlic salt and chili powder)

Step 3: Add a layer of onions

Step 4: Add a layer of sliced cucumber

Step 5: Add a layer of green chutney

Step 6: Sprinkle green chilies and sev

Step 7: Sprinkle some black salt

Step 8: Toast this and then add a blob of butter, coriander chutney, shredded cheddar cheese and sev.


ALOO TIKI CHAAT

Ingredients:

For the mash:

4/5 medium boiled potatoes

1/2 tsp black salt

1 small lime

Salt to taste

1/2 tsp red chili powder

2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves

2 chopped green chilies

3/4 tbsp corn starch

For the plating:

1 tsp chaat masala

1 small onion chopped

1/2 a cup yoghurt (stir it well so that it’s not too thick, you can add a little water to thin it slightly)

A handful of sev


Recipe:

Step 1: In a bowl mix all the ingredients mentioned above for the mash.

Step 2: Form into little balls and flatten slightly.

Step 3: Keep this aside till you are ready to fry them.

Step 4: Heat oil in a pan and deep fry all on both sides.

Plate up!!

Layer the aloo tikis and pour the curd on top, followed by a layer of coriander chutney and sweet imli chutney. Sprinkle a layer of chopped onions and sev with a dash of chaat masala.


BHEL PURI

Ingredients:

1 medium onion chopped into small pieces

1 large potato boiled and chopped into small pieces (rub these with some garlic salt)

1 cucumber cut into small pieces

1 tomato chopped into small pieces

2/3 green chilies chopped into small pieces

2 bowls of muri (puffed rice)

4/5 papris

3/4 tbsps mixed chana chur

A handful of sev

Sweet imli chutney to taste

Coriander chutney to taste

1 small lime

1/2 tsp chaat masala

Recipe:

Step 1 and only: In a large mixing bowl, mix all the above ingredients and get ready to enjoy a bowlful of mouth watering bhel!!!


IMLI CHUTNEY

Ingredients:

1/2 cup tamarind / imli

5/6 cup dates (remove the seeds)

1/2 cup jaggery

1 tsp coriander powder

1/2 tsp chili powder

1/2 tsp cumin powder

1 tsp ginger paste

About 2.5 cups water

Salt to taste


Recipe:

Step 1: Boil the tamarind, jaggery and dates in water for a few minutes.

Step 2: Add in all the other ingredients and mix well.

Step 3: Mash the puppy tamarind and dates well and keep stirring for a few more minutes.

Step 4: Strain this well, let it cool and then refrigerate till ready to use.


CORIANDER CHUTNEY

Take a large bunch of coriander, 1 tsp ginger, 1 lemon squeezed, 1 tsp cumin powder and 2/3 cut green chilies, 1/2 tsp black salt and grind it all together in a masala grinder. Refrigerate and serve with snacks.


Day 20 & 21:

#Day 20

Sehri- French toast, double side fried egg on toast, fruits, nuts and dates

Iftari- bhel puri, Bombay special sandwiches and makhana (roasted lotus seeds with chaat masala) with two chilled glasses of gur ka sharbat and Rasna

Dinner- Leftover biryani


#Day 21

Sehri- Egg paranthas, yoghurt, frutis, nuts and dates

Iftari- aloo tiki chaat and special maggi noodles (garlic, cheese & chili maggi), gur ka sharbat and Rasna

Dinner- Egg chicken rolls
