Chicken Jhalfrezi

A 30 minute simple delight that takes me down memory lane every time I dig in. One of the many dishes that I consider as 'comfort' food' and can't imagine going home and not having this on the menu. I would never have thought tossing up diced chicken with onions, chilies and potatoes could taste so good!

If you are looking for a light meal and something quick to put together, do try this out and let me know how it goes!

Ingredients

300 gms boneless chicken

2 medium sized onions

4/5 potatoes (boil slightly and chop into small squares)

6/7 slit green chilies (according to your spice tolerance levels)

1 tsp ginger/ garlic paste

2 tsp red chili powder (1.5 for the chicken and .5 for the potatoes)

1 tsp cumin powder

1 tsp coriander powder

1 tsp garam masala powder

1 tbsp crushed kasuri methi

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1.5 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (or as per taste)

Salt to taste

Recipe

Step 1: Dice up the chicken into small cubes. Take a large bowl and mix the chicken pieces well with the powdered spices- cumin, coriander, red chili, turmeric, garam masala, salt and the kasuri methi. Add 1 tbsp of oil and let it marinate for about 45 minutes.

Step 2: While the chicken is marinating, sprinkle some salt and red chili powder on the potato pieces. Heat oil in a pan and fry the potatoes. Once they are nice and brown, remove them and keep them aside.

Step 3: Heat oil in the same pan and fry the onions and green chilies.

Step 4: Heat oil in the same pan and add in the marinated chicken pieces. Cover and cook until the chicken is nice and tender. You can add some water at this stage.

Step 5: Add in the potatoes, onions and green chilies. Give all of it a good toss. Add in the Worcestershire sauce and stir well.

Plate up!!

Serve chicken jhalfrezi hot with plain rice and sambar dal.
