A Swiss Raclette Dinner

For all you cheese lovers, this has to be one of the most easy to make romantic dinners! #Raclette is a dish indigenous to parts of #Switzerland- based on heating cheese and scraping off the melted part.

Traditionally the melting happens in front of an open fire, with the big piece of cheese facing the heat. A modern way of serving raclette involves an electric table-top grill with small pans, known as coupelles, in which one can melt slices of raclette cheese.

The one I used is inspired by my favorite couple- Mehak and Michael. A trip to Munich is always deemed incomplete if I don't spend time with them being pampered by their amazing raclette dinners. I lived in Munich for 2.5 years before moving to Singapore and I miss my #europeanmoments every single day. During my stint in Munich I had an opportunity to travel around Europe, try exquisite cuisine, meet people from different cultural settings and I am very confident that's what drives me to experiment with my food daily. I don't want to forget those lovely moments, even though I am miles away and I tend to relive my times spent while travelling by making dishes specific to those countries.

The moment I drove into Switzerland from Austria, I knew I belonged there. It is one of the most scenic countries I have ever visited- driving through the steep Alpine mountain slopes and walking by the breathtakingly gorgeous lakes is a moment I wish I never had to say goodbye.

What goes best with Raclette?

The cold weather in Switzerland (which is my absolute favorite) is the best for having hot melted Raclette cheese poured over your choice of accompaniments. I chose boiled spicy potatoes, fresh tomatoes, gherkins, sautéd mushrooms, grilled chicken sausages, home-made garlic bread and Arabiata pasta. You can try different cold cut meat that also goes very well with this dish.

Traditional raclette cheese is obviously the best cheese for the dish, but if you don't have that, then you you could also use Camembert, sharp Cheddar, Emmental, Gorgonzola, Gruyère and Monterey Jack.

A dish so tasty and special that takes barely 20 minutes to put together is a must try for your loved ones. Thus, I urge you, during this romantic month, to try and pamper yourself or your families with a nice traditional Swiss raclette dinner.
